Duecenberg B400

What started out as a roughed in 32 Ford B-400 concept by Alan Johnson as his own personal project, turned into one of the most talked about street rods in 2009. The 32 Ford project had been a long time coming so when the JHRS crew got their hands on it, it was not about starting from scratch but refining and finishing the project. With more than 16,000 hours logged by the team, the 1932 Ford B-400 “Deucenberg” debuted at the 2009 Detroit Autorama to vie for the “Ridler Award” awarded to the best vehicle making its first public showing at the Detroit Autorama. During the show the “Deucenberg” made the cut into the Great Eight to be considered for the “Ridler Award”. At awards ceremony on Sunday evening it was announced that the 1932 Ford B-400 known as the “Deucenberg” had won the 2009 “Ridler Award”. The Deucenberg mixes world class coach building methods with classic street rodding styling. From the highly modified all steel 1932 Ford body to the highly detailed all aluminum Chevrolet LS6 power plant with one-off stack fuel-injection air cleaner and re-flowed cylinder heads topped off with one-off valve covers detail matched to air cleaner put the power to the ground with color matched true knock off Dayton Wire Wheels connecting the one-off I-Beam front axle and front radius rods and rear ladder bars to the all leather Paul Atkins Interior to create Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop’s version of a coach inspired hot rod. The “Deucenberg” retains its past with the fine body and fender lines, long louver hood sides, and the shape of the famous grill insert and grill shell of a 1932 Ford all given a tweak here and there to make it a more of a finished presentation. Everywhere the “Deucenberg” goes it awes the masses who witness its presence so much that the B-400 was named the 2009 Goodguys Street Rod of the Year as well as the Best Street Rod award at Shades of the Past. While on display in the Bilstein SEMA Show display booth, the “Deucenberg” was honored with the 2009 Mothers Shine Award given to the best vehicle in the show exhibiting overall appearance, attention to detail, integration of custom and stock elements, quality of paint finish, creative vision and execution of concept. The “Deucenberg” has achieved success on many levels and has made its mark on being one of the best of all time and the journey of recognition continues…
